Medicare is the national health insurance program for seniors over the age of 65. Medicare comes in parts. Medicare Part A is the primary hospital insurance component. Medicare Part A covers inpatient care in hospitals. It also covers hospice (end-of-life palliative care) and a very limited but important rehabilitation benefit for nursing homes and some home care. Part B covers other medically necessary services such as doctor visits and outpatient care.
