Florida Guardianships

Print This Page Print This Page

familyA Guardianship is a court proceeding that establishes the necessity for the protection of an individual with diminished capacity. This proceeding results in court appointment of a guardian who then has legal authority to manage an individual’s affairs or to make health care decisions for the individual. A guardianship is often viewed as a method of “last resort” because of the attendant costs, expenses and delays associated with its administration. However, it is ideal (or even necessary) where a real concern exists as to the proper administration of an individual’s finances.
